McLean Hospital The Klarman Eating Disorders Center at McLean Hospital can help you gain a con-fident sense of self. Regarded by many as the nation’s leading psychiatric hospital and as a Harvard Medical School affiliate, McLean Hospital offers the knowledge, expertise and resources for young women, ages 13 to 23, to recover from eating disorders. The Residence at the Klarman Center provides a supportive, highly structured environment in a modern, home-like setting that offers both privacy and a sense of community. With the help of a multidisciplinary staff of expressive therapists, nurses, nutritionists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and teachers, patients are able to better understand the emotions underlying their eating disorders and develop coping skills which they can successfully apply in their everyday lives. As partners in their own care, patients develop individualized contracts with staff and family, which drive their treatment. These contracts incorporate multiple components, including dialectical behavior therapies; symptom management skills; medications (if necessary); creative arts; educational classroom through grade 12; social skills and interpersonal relationship training; relapse prevention; and close coordination of care and discharge planning with community-based treaters. In addition to The Residence, the Klarman Center offers a partial hospital level of care that enables patients to participate in treatment during the day and through a supervised evening meal, then return home at night where they can practice their new skills. For more information, please call the Klarman Eating Disorders Center at McLean Hospital,(617) 855-3410, or email us at klarmancenter@mclean.org. The Pavilion: A Premier Setting for Diagnosis and Treatment When Porter, a 50-year-old corporate executive, entered The Pavilion, he was depressed, struggling at home and at work, and overly dependent on alcohol. Previous attempts at psychiatric treatment had only been moderately successful. However, following two weeks of intensive evaluation and treatment that he could receive only at The Pavilion, Porter began to feel that his life could return to normal. For Porter and others like him, The Pavilion provides many advantages. A core element of The Pavilion is access to an unrivaled network of diagnostic services through McLean Hospital and its affiliations with the world-renowned Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Spaulding Rehabili-tation Hospital, all members of Partners HealthCare. The Pavilion’s team of highly skilled clinicians integrates psychiatric care with a full neurological and medical diagnostic work-up, along with other immediately available medically necessary tests and specialty consultations. This approach of fully examining the biological as well as the emotional and social components of a patient’s illness underscores The Pavilion’s commitment to exploring every avenue in the search for successful solutions. While receiving care, patients at The Pavilion enjoy private rooms comfortably appointed with ensuite baths, specially prepared meals and an assortment of amenities, including a private library, access to a top health club and an array of walking and jogging paths throughout the hospital’s tree-lined campus. For more information on The Pavilion, please call (617) 855-3570 or email pavilion@mclean.org. |
